Multiple System Atrophy
- MSA is a neurodegenerative disorder that involves, to varying degrees, the olivopontocerebellar complex and the autonomic system.
- Type of MSA illustrated here is the cerebellar-predominant subtype (MSA-c), demonstrating atrophy of the cerebellum, pons and middle cerebellar peduncles.
- "Hot cross bun" sign is a cruciform hyperintensity in an atrophied pons, due to a selective loss of myelinated transverse pontocerebellar fibers and neurons in the pontine raphe with preservation of the pontine tegmentum and corticospinal tracts.
