Dehiscence of the lamina papyracea refers to a bony defect in the medial orbital wall (arrow in A) or an inward displacement of the wall into the ethmoidal complex. It may be congenital or acquired (after trauma or surgery). The thickened medial rectus muscle (red arrows in B and C) and orbital fat (yellow arrows in B and C) are herniated through this bony defect, imposing a potential risk for functional endoscopic sinus surgery to damage the herniated orbital contents.
