The ophthalmic vein in the carotid angiogram

Summary

The appearance of the superior ophthalmic vein following the different methods of cerebral angiography is described in normal and pathological cases. The appearance of the SOV is usually closely related to the filling of the external carotid artery. In the presence of anatomical variations, or in cases of, intracranial lesions with unusual drainage behaviour, the SOV may also appear following selective angiography of the internal carotid artery.

Les auteurs out etudié l'apparition de la v.o.s. dans l'angiographie carotidienne dans des cas normaux et pathologiques. Normalement la visualisation de cette veine est en stricte relation avec l'injection de l'artere carotide externe. La veine est visible sur les clichés de l'angiographie de la carotide interne dans les cas où il y a une variation anatomique et dans quelques cas pathologiques.

Zusammenfassung

Es wird die Darstellung der vena ophthalmica superior bei den unterschiedlichen Techniken der zerebralen Angiographie in normalen und pathologischen Fällen beschrieben. Gewöhnlich steht die Darstellung der v.o.s. in direktem Zusammenhang mit der Füllung der a. carotis externa. Bei Vorliegen anatomischer Variationen oder pathologischen intrakraniellen Befunden mit ungewöhnlicher Drainage kann sie auch im selektiven Angiogramm der a. carotis interna zur Darstellung kommen.
