Central diabetes insipidus unmasked by kidney transplantation: a case report and literature review
2020, Transplantation ReportsCitation Excerpt :In this particular case the underlying etiology of central DI could be congenital, but given the absence of symptoms thought her life, is likely related to the an acquired form of central diabetes. She does have risk factors for Sheehan's syndrome in the absence of no prior surgery nor trauma, empty but normal size sella, and female patient with prior pregnancy [19]. While medication related causes are possible, the absence of the posterior pituitary on imaging favors an anatomical abnormality.

Previously, we reported the findings in 6 of our patients with computed tomography and air cisternography showing a partial empty sella, and we showed thereafter that computed tomography alone was sensitive enough to demonstrate an empty sella of normal size in Sheehan syndrome (12, 29). Although the diagnosis of Sheehan syndrome was delayed, the symptoms began years earlier in most of the patients in our study.
