2022, Journal of the Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical MaterialsCitation Excerpt :Knowledge of the relationship between the biomechanical properties of human soft tissues and the pH values of the environments, to which these tissues are exposed to, is of practical relevance. Experimental protocols to establish the biomechanical properties of human tissues frequently include the immersion of the tissues in solutions to keep them hydrated (Aydin et al., 2019; Kizmazoglu et al., 2019; McGarvey et al., 1984; Sacks et al., 1998) or in more specific cases, adjust them to a particular hydration state (Falland-Cheung et al., 2018; Hammer et al., 2014; Lozano et al., 2019; Zwirner et al., 2019d, 2020a, 2021b). For this, an immersion time of 24 h is frequently used (Falland-Cheung et al., 2018; Hammer et al., 2014; Pearcy et al., 2021; Schleifenbaum et al., 2016; Zwirner et al., 2019a).
