Communicating Hydrocephalus Associated with Small- to Medium-Sized Vestibular Schwannomas: Clinical Significance of the Tumor Apparent Diffusion Coefficient Map
2016, World NeurosurgeryCitation Excerpt :Gross analysis of specimens at a low-power field demonstrated a preponderance of Antoni B in tumors associated with hydrocephalus. Because the Antoni B compartment is considered to represent degenerated Antoni A regions,24,25 it can be speculated that protein leakage is enhanced in those areas, leading to extracellular fluid accumulation, which results in an increase in the ADC value.21,26 Furthermore, this leads to increased protein content and impaired absorption of the CSF, which finally causes the hydrocephalus.
