2019, Neuroimaging Clinics of North AmericaCitation Excerpt :Images are parallel to the superior semicircular canal and cochlea and perpendicular to the posterior and lateral semicircular canals (Fig. 3).5,6,21 MR imaging does not play a primary role in evaluation of third window lesions, but can provide additional characterization of bone marrow and soft tissue abnormalities, perilymphatic fluid composition, and cranial nerve integrity.22,23 Semicircular canal dehiscence refers to extreme thinning and/or loss of the bony roof of the semicircular canal.
