2019, Infectious Disease Clinics of North AmericaCitation Excerpt :Both TE and PCNSL typically present with solitary or multiple lesions in the CNS that are ring enhancing with gadolinium on MRI, and can be accompanied by focal neurologic deficits. PCR testing of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) for Toxoplasma can assist in diagnosing TE, as can single-photon emission CT (SPECT), but availability and cost limit widespread use of the latter.92,93 It is common, therefore, to initiate treatment with a presumptive diagnosis of TE in seropositive patients with findings consistent with TE in the absence of a confirmed diagnosis.
