The calcar avis: demonstration with cranial US

Radiology. 1985 Aug;156(2):363-4. doi: 10.1148/radiology.156.2.4011898.

Abstract

The calcar avis indents the medial wall of the occipital horn of the lateral ventricle and, when prominent, may be seen on an ultrasonogram (especially one obtained through the posterior fontanel). It should be recognized as a normal variant and not be mistaken for an abnormal mass or resolving blood clot.
