EDITOR-IN-CHIEF


  • Dr. Mauricio Castillo is Professor of Radiology and Chief of Neuroradiology at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. His main areas of interest are general and pediatric neuroimaging and medical publication. He received his MD from the University of San Carlos in Guatemala and was a radiology resident at the University of Miami and a neuroradiology fellow at Emory University. Among his honors are an ARRS Figley fellowship in radiology journalism, ARRS Visiting Scholar at the AFIP, and ACR Valerie Jackson Fellow in Radiology Education. His publication record includes 275 peer-reviewed and 175 non-refereed articles and 72 book chapters. He also served as editor of 12 special journal issues and author of 13 books. He became AJNR’s Editor-in-Chief in 2007. Previously he was twice an AJNR Senior Editor, a member of the editorial board of 10 journals, Co-Editor of the Neuroimaging Clinics, Associate Neuroradiology Editor for AJR, and a manuscript reviewer for 27 journals.

  • Dr. Harry J. Cloft is Professor of Radiology at the College of Medicine of the Mayo Clinic and a Consultant at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. His main areas of interest are interventional neuroradiology and percutaneous vertebroplasty. He obtained his MD and PhD degrees from Wayne State University and completed his radiology residency at the University of Michigan and diagnostic neuroradiology and interventional neuroradiology fellowships at the University of Virginia. Before moving to his current position, he worked as an interventional neuroradiologist at Emory University Hospital. He is or has been a principal or co-investigator in 11 funded projects. His publication record includes 120 peer-reviewed articles and more than 30 invited articles and book chapters. Dr. Cloft has been an AJNR Senior Editor since 2006 and is a manuscript reviewer for 6 other journals.

  • Dr. William P. Dillon is the Elizabeth A. Guillaumin Professor of Radiology, Executive Vice Chair of Radiology, and Chief of Neuroradiology at the University of California at San Francisco. His main area of interest is head and neck imaging. He obtained his MD degree from the University of California at Los Angeles and completed his radiology residency at the University of Utah and a neuroradiology fellowship at UCSF. He is a Past President of ASNR and ASHNR and received the Gold Medal from ASHNR in 2008. He has been a co-investigator in 25 funded projects and 10 clinical trials. He has published 234 articles, 23 book chapters, and 3 books. Dr. Dillon has been an AJNR Senior Editor since 1998, is a member of the editorial board of 5 other journals, and serves as a manuscript reviewer for 5 journals.

  • Dr. Lucien Levy is Professor of Radiology and Chief of Neuroradiology at the George Washington University Medical Center. Previously he was Chief of Spectroscopy at the National Institutes of Health. His main areas of interest are MR spectroscopy and functional imaging techniques. He received his MD from Johns Hopkins University where he also specialized in radiology and neuroradiology. He holds a PhD in Biomedical and Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His curriculum vitae lists more than 40 peer-reviewed articles and 20 book chapters. The numerous awards he has received include the Di Chiro award for outstanding scientific research, Award of Excellence from the Symposium Neuroradiologicum, and Award of Excellence in Clinical Neuropsychology from the American Psychological Association. In 2008, he was appointed an Associate Editor for Radiology, and he has been an AJNR Senior Editor since 2007.

  • Dr. Jeffrey S. Ross is a member of the neuroradiology section at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix. Previously he was a Professor of Radiology and Chief of Neuroradiology at the Cleveland Clinic, and before that, he was an attending neuroradiologist at Case Western Reserve University. His main area of interest is spinal imaging. He was a radiology resident at the Cleveland Clinic and a neuroradiology fellow at Case Western Reserve University. He is Past President of ASSR and of the Eastern Neuroradiologic Society. His publications include 95 peer-reviewed articles, more than 50 non-refereed articles, 33 book chapters, and 10 books. He has been an AJNR Senior Editor since 2006, is a member of the editorial board for 3 other journals, and serves as a manuscript reviewer for 10 journals.

  • Dr. Pamela W. Schaefer is Associate Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School, a radiologist at the Massachusetts General Hospital, and Clinical Director of MRI and Associate Director of Neuroradiology and Neuroradiology Fellowship Director, also at MGH. Her main areas of interest are imaging of cerebrovascular disorders, brain tumors, advanced imaging techniques, and medical education. She received her MD from Johns Hopkins University, was a resident in pediatrics at the Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland, and completed her radiology and neuroradiology training at MGH. Her publications include more than 66 peer-reviewed articles and 25 review articles and book chapters. She is currently President Elect of the New England Roentgen Ray Society and ASNR Treasurer as well as a Past President of the Eastern Neuroradiologic Society. She was appointed as an AJNR Senior Editor in 2006 and is a manuscript reviewer for 5 other journals.

  • Dr. Charles M. Strother is Professor Emeritus of Radiology at the University of Wisconsin and an attending physician at the Methodist Hospital in Houston. His main area of interest is interventional neuroradiology. He received his MD degree from the University of Texas in Galveston and completed neurology and radiology residencies at Stanford University and neuroradiology fellowships at Stanford and the University of California at San Francisco. His previous positions include Professor of Radiology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and Captain in the US Army Medical Corps. He is a Past President of ASNR and ASITN (now SNIS). He has been a co-investigator in 10 funded projects. His publications include 126 articles, 12 book chapters, and 6 books. Dr. Strother has been an AJNR Senior Editor since 1998.

    Karen oversees editorial office operations, editing and production, and the Publication Preview, Special Collection, and Podcast sections of the Website. She has served as the AJNR Managing Editor since 2005.

  • Mary Harder, Editorial Assistant
    Mary provides Manuscript Central assistance and support with peer review issues as well as handling commercial reprints and advertising, color charge and open access invoicing, and permissions requests. She has served as Editorial Assistant for the AJNR since 1998.

  • Jason Gantenberg, Editorial/Web Assistant
    Jason handles processing of submitted and accepted manuscripts, the AJNR Blog, Case of the Week, the Weekly Poll Question, general Website design and maintenance, and subscriber support and services. He has served as Editorial/Web Assistant for the AJNR since 2005.
