Abstract

In vivo uptake of tritiated thymidine with subsequent autoradiography of haütchen preparations of guinea-pig aortic endothelium shows that mitosis is not directly related to age. It is most frequent in the aortic arch and around the mouths of branches. Mitoses are frequent above artificial aortic constrictions where pressures are raised. Mitosis, representing nuclear proliferation during the repair of localized injury, shows maximal activity 24–48 h after damage.
