2019, Best Practice and Research: Clinical Endocrinology and MetabolismCitation Excerpt :Similarly, visual symptoms are rare with XGHy [60]. Visual symptoms could manifest as visual field defects if the enlarged pituitary encroaches on the optic chiasm causing bitemporal quadrantopsia or hemianopsia, or pupillary defects or diplopia from compression of cranial nerves III (oculomotor), IV (trochlear), and VI (abducens), and rarely orbital pain or facial paraesthesia from compression of the branches of cranial nerve V (trigeminal nerve) [108–110]. Asthenia is another common symptom reported in up to 86% of PHy and 58% of ICIHy patients [17].
Other Pituitary Conditions and Pregnancy
2019, Endocrinology and Metabolism Clinics of North AmericaCitation Excerpt :At the end of pregnancy, the woman complains of signs and symptoms suggestive of a pituitary mass effect, including headaches and alterations of visual acuity and the visual field that are induced by the compression of the optic chiasm1,2,16,17 (Table 1). More rarely, oculomotor palsy indicates an impact on the cavernous sinus.18–22 All these signs and symptoms, which usually suggest the presence of a pituitary macroadenoma (and may evoke, in particular, a pituitary apoplexy), should prompt the clinician to require imaging of the hypothalamic-pituitary region.
