2020, Journal of Cranio-Maxillofacial SurgeryCitation Excerpt :Despite these problems, preoperative examination with an Orthopantomogramm (OPT) and a clinical examination of the patient are still defined as the gold standard before dental implantation in this difficult region. The advantages of panoramic imaging include the ability to visualize several anatomic structures, low cost, and availability (Tyndall and Brooks, 2000). Innovations in technology that use advanced X-ray tubes should also be considered before using CBCT (Pauwels et al., 2015).
