Neuroglial Heterotopia (Nasal Glioma)
- Mass composed of brain tissues located outside of the cranial vault; not a true neoplasm, thus "neuroglial heterotopia" is a better term than "nasal glioma".
- Usually follow signal intensity of brain with possible increased T2 prolongation due to dysplastic tissues and gliosis; variable enhancement.
- Important to assess for continuity with intracranial contents to exclude an encephalocele or dermoid. When overlying skin discoloration is present, consider hemangioma.
- Treatment: Surgical resection for cosmetic reasons. These lesions may show slow growth.
