Pineoblastoma
- The pineal gland is the site of origin of 1-2% of all CNS tumors. Approximately 25% of pineal tumors arise from proper pineal cells.
- More common in children and young adults; more common in males (4:1); about 2200/patients per year in the USA.
- It is a PNET; CSF dissemination is common; prognosis is poor; 5-year survival rate is about 50 percent.
- Scattered or peripheral calcifications, low ADC, and high perfusion are typical features.
