Progressive Supranuclear Palsy
- Progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) is a rare neurodegenerative disease characterized by dementia, supranuclear ophthalmoplegia, and postural instability.
- Patients usually present after the first 4 decades of life.
- Key Diagnostic Features: Mid-brain atrophy is the characteristic imaging finding, best appreciated on MR imaging. Sagittal T1WI or T2WI demonstrate loss of volume of the superior colliculus. Concavity of the lateral margin of the tegmentum has also been described.
- DDx: Corticobasal degeneration, Parkinson's disease.
