MR elastography allows noninvasive evaluation of mechanical properties of the brain altered by NPH. Different morphologic phenotypes of NPH are associated with unique mechanical signatures. Pattern analysis based on MRE is a promising method for improving diagnosis to distinguish NPH from other neurologic disorders that may have overlapping imaging and/or clinical presentations (such as Parkinson disease, Alzheimer disease, or progressive supranuclear palsy) and for predicting shunt outcomes.

    American Journal of Neuroradiology March 2024, 45 (3) 271-276; DOI: https://doi.org/10.3174/ajnr.A8114

In this single-center retrospective study of pediatric patients with acute AIS related to anterior circulation proximal LVO, a specific pattern of unilateral poststroke anastomotic bridge with collaterals bypassing the affected zone was observed in the first year after stroke. This clinical-radiologic pattern was not associated with stroke recurrence or arterial worsening but was strongly associated with focal cerebral arteriopathy.

The current diagnostic reference standard for peripheral trigeminal nerve injuries is neurosensory testing in combination with clinical findings to determine treatment. MRN provides an alternative method for the diagnosis and staging of patients with PTN because of its ability to delineate anatomy and the exact location of injury. This study correlates injury grading based on NST and MRN, demonstrating similar rates of agreement with surgical findings in lower-grade injuries but higher rates of agreement between MRN and surgical findings than NST in higher-grade injuries.

This study found that a 9-minute delay in postcontrast acquisition on multiphase contrast-enhanced VW MRI proved to be beneficial for enhancing plaque visibility and for the differentiation between culprit and nonculprit plaques. Additionally, the study showed that culprit and nonculprit plaques exhibit unique enhancement patterns over time.
