Abstract
Ischemic changes produced by autogenous clot embolization of intracranial arteries were monitored by continuous surface-coil 31P spectroscopy in 12 rabbits: six were used as controls and six were treated intravenously with tissue-type plasminogen activator. The animals were sacrificed and the brains were fixed with intravital stains.
The results indicate that spectral changes are reversible only when thrombolysis therapy is started within 30 min after ischemic changes are detected. The improvement of the 31P spectrum correlated with postmortem changes.
